Another new band in May

Called with Folk Heritage at the Swettenham Arms for a wedding. I like bands with fiddle players, and marvel at how many different ways they can make a great sound.

Also called in a barn with Family band, took my turn on the callers' rota at two clubs (Adlington and Hawk Green), and enjoyed the Chester Festival.

Partying with a new band

Last Saturday was my first booking with Three Point Turn. Another band with an excellent fiddler, they played mainly Irish tunes for Kath's 60th birthday in Birkenhead. I enjoyed listening to them before the break, then after the food we had a floor full of dancers.

A joint birthday

Karen and Christine are cousins who share a birthday (give or take a couple of weeks), shared a pram in the past, and last week shared a 50th party. I called and a mini Black Cat band played. Marilyn on melodeon and Nicholas making his fiddle sing (Black Kitten really - they did an excellent job).

December 3rd & 4th 2010

Why, oh why, after scarcity of bookings did I get two for this chilly weekend (3 if you count the emergency phone call on Sat morning that I couldn't help with)
I braved snow in Cheshire and Christmas shopping crowds in Liverpool centre on Friday, ice and motorway fog in Worsley on Saturday, but the guests at Marie's leaving do and Mike and Helen's wedding joined in the dancing and seemed to be enjoying it - which was what mattered.
The wedding was in an interesting venue Worsley Courthouse and the bride and bridesmaids' dresses were unique and very striking. Like all weddings it was running late, but I got my cd player in eventully, and the space between the tables was crowded with dancers.

November 2010

I called with the Family Band at a fund raising ceilidh for a school boat club. The dancing was enthusiastic and energetic.

I also called for an evening dancing at Hawk Green Hoe Down club and St Helens Folk Dance club .
As none of these were on a Saturday I enjoyed dancing at three excellent ceilidhs.
